I managed to create a bubble material in UDK and apply it to our ball character mesh. I have set it so that the middle is transparent but around the edges it feathers in to a rainbow effect. I edited the rainbow texture file I created to work for the specular map too; I lightened it slightly to give more of a sheen effect. I am rather please with my material as it is colourful and will hopefully compliment the world colours once we have got everything textured. Still a few more things to do to perfect it though.
